Thursday Night PHRF Racing
The Thursday night PHRF racing will begin this week, weather permitting. The first race will be only about 4 nm point-to-point, as the forecast is for light SW winds. If it turns out that is too short, we can lengthen the course next week. I will man the committee boat this week, and the start/finish line will be between an orange portable mark and the committee boat. There will be no skippers meeting, but monitor VHF Channel 69 for information updates or call my cell phone if you have any legitimate questions. Please try to be behind the start line at 6:30 pm.
Timing
5-minute warning at 6:30 pm: horn signal and class flag up
4-minute warning at 6:31 pm: horn signal and P flag up
1-minute warning at 6:34 pm: horn signal and P flag down
Race start at 6:35 pm: long horn signal and class flag down
Course
Start between orange portable mark and committee boat;
1st mark: Flip Rock Buoy, round it leaving it to port;
2nd mark: Shag Rocks Buoy, round it leaving it to port;
3rd mark: Flip Rock Buoy, round it leaving it to port;
Finish: between orange portable mark and committee boat.
Misc. Info
Use of a spinnaker must be declared before the race start. Your boat will use its racing rating, and all other boats will get a 10% increase in their ratings.
Volunteers for race committee in subsequent weeks will receive the equivalent of a first place scoring for the race in which they work the committee boat.
RSVP is not required, but if you think you will race, I would appreciate an email by Thursday noontime. Hope to see you all there.

2008 CLASS UPDATE
Sailing season is rapidly approaching, and the plans for racing at the Dory Club are in progress. We have a full calendar planned for the cruising fleet this year, including the five traditional weekend races, and new this year, a Thursday evening race series in July and August. We are hosting the King of Clubs Regatta once again this year, defending our title against Swampscott and Lynn yacht clubs, and this year marks the 15th anniversary of the Annual Centennial Cup Race. Both of these events are sure to be better than ever, so mark your calendars now!
If you have never joined the racing program before, give it a try this year. This is a great opportunity to hone your skills in sailing through good-natured competition, and the races are followed either by an informal gathering or a full-fledged party at the club. It is day-sailing with a purpose!
The cruising fleet racing program fee is $75 for the season, and includes all five scheduled weekend races (except the King of Clubs) and the Thursday evening series. Just check the appropriate box on the renewal application. The ala carte fee for individual races is $25.
All boats participating must have a working VHF radio and all government-mandated safety equipment, and are encouraged to have a valid PHRF rating. For those who would like to obtain or update their PHRF registration, please contact Jody Graul, the Nahant PHRF Fleet Governor, at jfgraul@comcast.net
The calendar is listed below, and updates will be posted on the Dory Club website, http://www.doryclub.org/ , along with details and race instructions prior to the events.
Note that the King of Clubs has been moved back to its traditional date, the last weekend of July.
Sat: June 7th - Frostbite Race
Sat: June 21st - Chowder Race
Sat: July 26th - S-N-L King of Clubs Regatta
Sun: August 10th - Egg Rock Race
Sat: September 13th - Centennial Cup
Sat: October 11th - By George Race
The Thursday night series is expected to begin in mid-July and run through mid-August. Dates will be confirmed later.
I hope to see you all soon out on the water!
